Recertification
Induction and Orientation to Practice in Aotearoa New Zealand
Occupational therapists who are new to practice in Aotearoa New Zealand or returning after a break of more than 3 years are required to complete the OTBNZ Recertification Programme.
The recertification programme applies to new occupational therapy registrants, those returning to practice after a break, and those applying to be restored to the register.
The recertification programme is intended to:
- Ensure new occupational therapy registrants commence practice with sufficient support, not only for the practitioner’s benefit but also for the protection of the public.
- Provide the Board with an assurance of competence before the practitioner practises independently.
The requirements of the recertification programme vary depending on the class of practitioner.
- New Graduate practitioners are required to have weekly supervision and complete Te Rito.
- Overseas qualified and those returning to practice after a break of 3 or more years away are required to have fortnightly supervision and complete Te Rito.
- TTMRA practitioners are not required to participate.
