Welcome to the Occupational Therapy Board of New Zealand
Attention:
The Occupational Therapy Key Strategic Stakeholders Group (OTKSS) seeks your contribution to the development of a strategy to establish the role and profile of occupational therapy in the future. You have the opportunity to influence what the profession might look like in 2015 and beyond by completing an online questionnaire. Click here to be directed to the Questionnaire.

You can recertify or pay the register maintenance fee for the 2008/2009 year from 15 February 2008

What you need to do for Recertification

What you need to do to pay the Register Maintenance Fee
PRACTISING CERTIFICATES
Practising certificates are issued from 1 April - 31 March every year. You must have a current practising certificate to continue practising occupational therapy. The register displays the names of practitioners who hold a current practising certificate. The fee for a practising certificate remains at $506.
REGISTER MAINTENANCE FEE
An annual register maintenance fee applies to practitioners who are on the register but do not hold a current practising certificate. This fee is payable by 31 March every year. If your name does not appear on the register as registered without a practising certificate, it will be because you have not yet paid the register maintenance fee. The register maintenance fee for the 2008/2009 year will be reduced to $56.25.
HAVING TROUBLE MAKING AN ONLINE CREDIT CARD PAYMENT?
When you have completed your online recertification application, the system asks if you want to pay online. If you say 'yes' it tries to branch to the payment screen. We understand that some employers, computer systems have been set up to block this screen for security reasons. If this is the case, the system will give you an error message. We suggest if this happens you either pay by cheque, or you go online from home if you can. You could also talk to your IT people at work, to confirm that they are blocking the site (it is obviously not something we have control over).

If you hear of colleagues having problems with online credit card payments, could you draw their attention to this notice please? Thank you.
FEE CHANGES
A revised schedule of fees is effective from 1 April 2008.
PRACTISING ILLEGALLY?
If you are in doubt about whether or not you or your employees should be holding a current practising certificate, please read the Board's Policy For Registration of Occupational Therapists. This policy provides clear guidelines for occupational therapists and employers on who should hold a current practising certificate.

CONDITIONS ON SCOPE OF PRACTICE
There are three standard conditions on scope of practice that apply to new graduates, overseas qualified occupational therapists and occupational therapists returning to practise in NZ. Please read the Board Policy on Standard Conditions on Scope of Practice. See also Supervision for Occupational Therapists in the context of the HPCAA.
Removal of Conditions on Scope of Practice
From 1 April 2008 an application fee of $58 applies for changes to, or removal of, conditions on scope of practice.
What is required?
If you have fulfilled the Board's requirements relating to the condition on your scope of practice, you must apply to have the condition removed.
As an example, the 'New Graduate' condition means that the practitioner is subject to weekly supervision for their first 12 months of practice. After the 12 months of supervision, the practitioner must apply to have the condition removed.
If you have a condition on your scope of practice, your supervisor must be a registered occupational therapist with a current practising certificate and no condition on their scope of practice. Ask your supervisor to complete a supervisor's report. Send this to the Board, along with a completed Application for Removal of Condition on Scope of Practice form and your supervision log.

Please note that the supervisor's report needs to give the Board an assessment of your current practice. The report should:
  • Assess your competence to practise in the position in which you are employed across the seven competencies for registration.
  • Include a summary statement that supports the supervisor's recommendation to either remove or continue the condition.
NB: A supervisor's report is a stand-alone document. The supervisor should not cross-reference to the supervisee's Continuing Competence Framework for Recertification (CCFR).

The prescribed frequency of supervision must continue until you have been notified by the Board that the condition has been lifted.
