Returning to practice in New Zealand after three or more years

The OTBNZ recognises that occupational therapists returning to practice in New Zealand after a period of three or more years have differing levels of knowledge and experience. It therefore takes this into account when requiring competence assessments or imposing conditions.

Returning practitioners will fall into one of the following two categories:

  • Practitioners who have not practised in New Zealand during the last three years, but who have practised overseas for at least two of the last three years, OR
  • Practitioners who have not practised in New Zealand during the last three years, and have not practised overseas for at least two of the last three years.

The practising certificate application requirements for each of these categories are described in the Registration Information for Registered Occupational Therapists Returning to Practice in New Zealand after Three Years document.
