Practising certificate information

In order to practise as an occupational therapist you must be registered and hold a current practising certificate.  If there is any doubt about whether or not a current practising certificate is required, the OTBNZ document ‘Policy on when registration and a practising certificate are required’ provides clear guidelines for occupational therapists and employers about who needs a current practising certificate.

Responsibility
  • It is your responsibility to ensure you hold a current practising certificate.
  • It is an employer's responsibility to ensure occupational therapists they employ are properly registered and certified to practise.
Notes for all occupational therapists
  • The practising year begins on 1 April and ends on 31 March.
  • A practising certificate is required even if you work part time or intermittently.
  • There is no refund if you stop work part way through the year.
  • If your practising certificate is stolen or lost, please contact the OTBNZ.
If you intend to practise during the current year you will find useful information on the pages below
If you don't intend to practise during the current year

You may pay the register maintenance fee and have your name on the public register of non-practising occupational therapists. You then retain login access and continue to receive all newsletters and information from the OTBNZ.
