Conditions on scope of practice

The OTBNZ imposes standard conditions on the scope of practice of certain groups of practitioners.  The three standard conditions are:

‘New Graduate’ – entails weekly supervision by a registered occupational therapist for the first 12 months of practice
‘Overseas Qualified Registrant’ - entails fortnightly supervision by a registered occupational for the first six  months of practice
‘Return to Practice’ in New Zealand’ - entails fortnightly supervision by a registered occupational for the first six months of practice

Please read the OTBNZ’s Policy on Standard Conditions on Scope of Practice.  See also Supervision for Occupational Therapists in the context of the HPCAA.

Supervision of an occupational therapist with a condition on his/her scope of practice must be carried out by a registered occupational therapist with a current practising certificate and no condition on his or her own scope of practice.

Removal of conditions on scope of practice

The requirements and procedures for removing a condition on the scope of practice are covered on the Removal of Conditions page.
